This page is for the projects I’m working on.
NEW! Wicket has a new friend! I made this new Ewok out of craft fur, a trouser sock, leather, beads, and feathers.
Now I have it dyed. I think it came out okay. Jeremy Bulloch liked it when I went to Super Megafest today 11/17/07!
Here is the full costume after dying.
I am now working on Orillia's Endor poncho. I bought a poncho pattern at Jo-Ann's and tonight, 11/15/07, I cut out the poncho and hood and sewed it all together.
These two pictures show the front and the back before dying.
The next two pictures will be after the dying.
I have not received my Endor ring yet, so I doubt I'll be wearing the helmet to Super Megafest. But it's okay, since I don't NEED the helmet. I can just wear Orillia's traditional ringlet style hairdo. Tomorrow I'll have new pictures above this entry.
I'm surprised that the poncho came out so well, since it was done so hastily. Anyway, I used black thread on it because I'll be dying it and I didn't think it mattered what colour I chose for the thread. So, if you see weird black dots or specks, that's the thread.
Whoo!
The first project was Yoda’s amulet thingy which I read is called a “blissl” flute.
This picture shows it on my stuffed Yoda thing. I made this out of Sculpey, various beads, copper spray paint, and regular acrylic paints. The beads are held on with Elmer’s glue which, surprisingly enough, has held really well.
The next project I’m working on is my character Orillia’s Dagobah and Bespin boots. I have bought foam and suede-like fabric at Jo-Ann’s with which I will make these boots.
These are the boots before their future makeover. I bought the boots at a Target in my town. They fit really well and are comfortable as all get-out.
10/26/06 – Start of the boot project.
These are the foam cutouts that I decided to use for the construction of these boots. You’ll notice that they have R and L written on them for the right foot boot and left foot boot. I took measurements and I estimated 10 inches from the top of my foot to the desired height of the boot, which is about mid-calf or more. The big pieces are about 15 inches wide to the 10 inches tall to go around the back of my calf and around slightly in front. The little pieces are about 6 ½ inches wide to the 10 inches tall to be the front piece of the boot like the “tongue” of a shoe.

Here is the fabric I bought.
Here is the fabric with the boots. You can see that it more or less matches the suede on the original boots. The next thing I will do with the fabric is cut it and sew it so that it completely covers the foam pieces. I will then sew the fabric-covered pieces onto the boots.
I have not yet given any thought as to the material I will use for the boot bindings.
Stay tuned for more of the “Boot Project.”
10/27/06 - Cut out the fabric and sewed it, then put the foam inside the pillowcase-like bag it made.
My first attempt at getting the bag thing for the left leg wrap-around just right. As you can see...
...it just didn't fit!
The problem was, I made the seam allowance too wide. So, on the second try...
...it fits perfectly! I had no more problems with the rest of the pieces, except that on one piece, the sewing machine turned evil on me and the seam ended up curved. But I fixed it.
This is the right leg wrap-around. No problems here! Now it's time for the "tongues..."
This is the left foot "tongue" and...
...this is the right foot "tongue." All of these pics look the same, I guess, but it makes a difference for me to know which piece belongs on which boot.
Now, all I have to do is find something for the boot bindings, sew a whip-stitch around the open ends on the "bag" pieces, then sew them to the boots. Hopefully I can get all this done by Halloween, so I can go out as my character Orillia Darkstar. I have a lightsaber already made, and a good belt, you can see that and my SW collections here.
10/28/06 - I bought a leather needle to be able to sew the "tongues" to the boots. I first did a whip-stitch on all the pieces (by hand) to close off the openings. I then started sewing the "tonuges" to the boots (again by hand) but only finished one boot and almost half of the other. NOTE TO SELF AND OTHERS: LEATHER IS REALLY REALLY HARD TO SEW, ESPECIALLY BY HAND! Even though the boot leather is suede which in turn means it's soft and supple, the leather needle won't work unless you push on the other end of it through the leather piece you're working on. At this point one MUST wear a thimble, be it tough leather or otherwise! I've been wearing a tough leather one and it has worked, but I occasionally feel the eye of the needle pricking me slightly through the thimble. Hopefully on Sunday I can finish the rest of the of the boot tongues and sew the velcro onto the boot bindings and the bindings to the wrap-arounds. I then hope to start sewing the wrap-arounds to the boots, then I'll be able to finish it up on Monday. It'll be a very close call, but I hope to have it done by Halloween... (No images this time.)
Here's a doll of what I may look like in my Halloween "costume..."

Stay tuned!
10/29/06 - I finished sewing the "tongues" into the boots. I started to sew the velcro onto the boot bindings, but it just didn't work out! So, instead, I used Fabri-tac permanent fabric glue to stick the pieces of velcro onto the bindings. It came out great! I just hope it'll hold when I put the boots on. I also sewed the bindings to the wrap-arounds. I think it'll hold perfectly. Now, all I have to do tomorrow is sew the wrap-arounds to the boots and I'm all set for Halloween! Yayness! (No images this time, but I promise to put up pics of the finished boots tomorrow. I also hope to have a picture of me in full costume. Not to worry, it'll get done.)
Stay tuned!
10/30/06 - The boots are finished! Yayness!
Although I do wish they weren't so poofy, they turned out okay, I guess. Next year I'm going to have MotorCowboy do my boots so that they will look better. On a lighter note, the boots are very warm.
This is me in full costume. Yes, I'm fat, and the outfit makes me look even squatter than I already am. But hey! Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the good of your outfit. Or...um...something to that effect.
This is me with the lightsaber "on." There's a jacket that goes with this outfit too, but I didn't feel like wearing it for this picture.
Well, I made the boots before Halloween and I'm relatively satisfied with them. I hope you enjoyed watching my progress. The next thing I'll be doing is an Old Republic Jedi costume for Super Megafest 2006 on the weekend of November 18th. I hope I have time. I already have the pants, the lightsaber, the boots (they're black) and the fabric for the tunic. I'll be using the Padawan's Guide as a...well...guide for my costume. I also have the simplicity pattern 4450 as a guide, too. Hopefully, my mom will help me sew this costume in time and help me with the adjustments to the pattern to fit my size (which, by the way, is a size 'Oh my God she's coming toward me...').
Stay tuned for more projects, 'kay?
